Tiger Woods

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 12:56 pm

This week has been a rough one already for Tiger Woods. He was in a car accident on Thursday night. This sent him to the hospital for some cuts to his face. But what is this weird storyline that his wife saved him by smashing in the back window with a golf club and pulling him out that way. Did none of the doors work anymore? And does this perhaps have something to do with the reports the day before that he had had an affair recently? This is a big story, despite Tiger’s best efforts over the weekend to quell the storm. He hoped that a short statement asking for privacy would be enough to send off news organizations like TMZ and People Magazine. Alas, that’s not how this is supposed to work, so he will probably have to come out with the real story, either in the media or possibly even in court, depending on what this turns out to be.

The college football season is finally at an end. And now comes the special fun that this time of year brings you. You will be able to see a few of your favorite teams in big bowl games and championship games. That’s what NCAA football tickets get you to. The talk of today is Colt McCoy and his ability to win. Yesterday, he threw 4 touchdowns and ran in another one in a 49 point effort that won against Texas A&M. But don’t forget about Florida. They are ranked number 1 and are going to stay there. The BCS championship is coming, as are all the important bowls, like the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl. There are some great teams this year that include players with amazing stories. Get yourself tickets and you can be part of this historical season.

Colts Remain Undefeated

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 10:48 am

When the Indianapolis Colts meet the Baltimore Ravens, it’s almost always an exciting event. It’s been a long time since the Ravens were in major contention, but this year might be a huge year for them. The Colts have been slipping a bit lately, though you can’t tell it from their still undefeated status, but this is a team that has been making more mistakes of late than they were at the beginning of the season. This week, they were able to hold the Ravens down at the end, even though they gave up 3 possessions. The win was brought about mainly by the Colt’s kicker making the winning field goal in a 17-15 win. This puts the Ravens in a tough spot, however, as they are looking to take control of the AFC North. This is important but without the win, they will have to get themselves some wins here down the stretch.

Knicks

The New York Knicks are clearly in need of some new blood. They are kind of waiting out this season so that they can get themselves the kind of new players that can change a team for the best. It turns out, however, that Allen Iverson isn’t the player that they’re looking for. I would have thought that they would be willing to take anyone at this point, the way that the team is looking. But they decided that he doesn’t fit into their long-term plans, so they aren’t going to pick him up from free agency after the Grizzlies decided to waive him this week. What a turn of events! Who would have thought that Allen Iverson wouldn’t be able to get signed immediately by a team? It’s a long way until free agency is over, but this even is a sign of both the team’s challenges and the player’s own challenges.

All the News

The biggest news in the sports world is the decision by the New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick to go for it on 4th down with 2 minutes left last night. You might think that just because they lost by one point, it makes sense. You want to drive down the field and make a field goal. But what if I told you his team was down by 6 points at the time? and that they were deep in their own territory when it happened? It wasn’t an easy decision, and Belichick is one of the coaches that believes that you take big chances and you reap big benefits when you succeed. Last night, the team just barely missed it on 4th and short, giving the rival, undefeated Indianapolis Colts possession deep in NE territory. It was unfortunate for the Pats. People all over are asking why Beli did it, but there are no real answers forthcoming at the moment. We’ll have to see whether there is any more information later in the week. These things don’t usually stay secret for long.

Bears in Freefall?

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 12:42 pm

All the stories on local Chicago radio this morning were about last night’s Chicago Bears game against the San Francisco 49ers. Both teams were looking forwards to getting themselves back into the winning column again this week. For the Bears, it was another frustrating week with the offense dropping the ball. Last weekend, it was the defense that couldn’t get the job done against the Cardinals. This week, it was Jay Cutler’s offense that ended up flailing. It’s getting hard for people in the city to actually diagnose what it is that ails the team, but it seems to have something to do with both offense and defense, in particular, the lines of each of them. The 49ers end up back in the thick of the divisional hunt, hoping for some wins and looking forward to playing a big game!

Iverson

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 2:09 pm

Allan Iverson is upset about the role that he’s playing on the Memphis Grizzlies right now. He’s hoping to be a key player for the team, but he’s not yet been able to get himself in that position. In fact, last night he started from the bench. And he didn’t get onto the court until the 4th quarter. He scored fairly well, but he’s sore about the role that he’s playing with the team at the moment. He’s coming off the bench. It’s because he’s not the best player nowadays. He was more talented before, but he’s been injured a lot over the last several years. We would love to see him get back to a starting position, but he will have to improve his attitude and general level of play before they will give him the starting position.
