Carolina Bumped

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 11:13 am

The Carolina Panthers are now back at the level of an Arena Football League team, having started out 0-3 going into their first Bye week. They weren’t able to hold off the struggling Cowboys last night, losing 21-7 and giving up 21 unanswered points, mainly in the second half. The biggest play that put the team down was a late interception that was returned for a touchdown after Steve Smith failed to run the play that had been called. He went off his route, leaving a defender open to pick it off. The team is going to have to start from square 1 over this two week break, because it’s been kind of a crazy beginning for the season. Some very basic work might be necessary for them to get back in there.

Vick Disappointed

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 7:55 am

Michael Vick was disappointed that he came back to the NFL and isn’t a starter. He said that he had imagined his return would be as a starter for some team. With the Eagles, he isn’t even second-string. He’s the third string QB for the team. Ok, but who told him that he could just jump back in as a starting quarterback? Of course, he has been a starting quarterback for many years and doesn’t know much else. In some ways, many people think he’s lucky to be back on the football field at all. All those people who say that they wouldn’t have a job or anything if they had been caught in the same kind of situation as Vick was. That’s probably true. Thus, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that he didn’t come back as a top player on the team yet. That kind of trust will be earned back with time.

Laxico Plaxico Goes to Hoosegow

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 8:43 am

Plaxico Burress was arrested last year for shooting himself in the leg. It’s not that he’s a bad guy or that it’s illegal to shoot yourself. But he had a concealed weapon in the city of New York. He was quickly zapped from the team because of it, since it was pretty clearly illegal and the team didn’t want to have anything to do with it. The New York Giants were aiming to have a good year again, possibly even another Super Bowl and it didn’t work out this time around because they ended up with a rough situation with Burress. Burress was going to be a big part of their team last year, as one of the main receivers. Without him, they struggled mightily and that’s it. Today he was sentenced to two years in prison. I have to say, I feel bad for him, but I guess no matter who breaks the law, the rules are the same.

Spartans Luxuriously Living

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 3:30 pm

When we last saw the Michigan State Spartans in action, they were in the Capital One Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs. They didn’t win, but they put up a good battle and were considered one of the best teams in the NCAA that season. Many different polls showed that they were an impressive team. This year, they are also ranked in the top 10 according to most polls, which would suggest that they could easily make it back to a bowl game this year too. When the Spartans play their game well, it can dominate pretty much any opponent. When they struggle, the game gets exciting, though they still often win. Ordering Michigan State Spartans football tickets is the best way for you to be there and see this amazing team battle it out for preeminence in the Big Ten.

Just Like That

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 10:26 am

Although Michael Vick can’t play with the Eagles for awhile, he might well have to practice hard right now and get into shape for a starting position. Donovan McNabb was injured during this weekend’s game and Philadelphia is none too happy. Jeff Garcia is an able quarterback, but not what they’re used to and not the calibre that many people might be hoping for. At the same time, Vick is out for a little while and it’s also not really certain whether he’ll be back to full strength right away. Probably not, since he hasn’t been in a pro football game in the regular season for several years. We’ll just have to wait and see, but the cracked rib of McNabb cannot be denied and it’s not sure how long it’s going to sideline him.

First day of NFL Season

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 10:55 am

The NFL season has come up really fast this year, but here we are! It’s going to be a lot of fun too, because the first game pits the Steelers against the Titans. According to expert Peter King, we should expect a low scoring game. With the Steelers’ strong defense still remaining mostly intact and the Titans’ newly beefed up defense, it’s going to be an exciting game. It wont please those of you who are into big flashy offensive games with big touchdowns with wide receivers and long runs with the Emmit Smiths of the world. It’s going to be slower and a big tougher. As the NFL season moves forwards, it’s going to be exciting to see these teams play and I think they’ll be playing again later on. Get ready for some fun football this year!

Fighting Spirit

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 1:23 pm

There is a great player out in the US Open right now. Melanie Oudin is pushing far into the tournament and is currently in the quarterfinals. She might be headed to the finals, though she has some big tough players to get through beforehand. It will be very interesting to see where this ends. So far, she has won against several of the world’s best players; Sharapova, Dementieva, Jankovic have all fallen to her during this tournament and the last. Meanwhile, the rest of the players will probably be aiming to take her down. But what an exciting 17 year old to watch while she puts away a bunch of the best players in the world! This will be a fun final to watch and if she’s in it, even better!

Here Come Some New Champions

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 9:29 pm

You can have your US Open tennis tournaments and all that kind of thing. On the other hand, most of us will be watching the NFL this year. What an exciting year it will be. We will get to watch Tom Brady playing once again. We will also get to see the Chicago Bears with their new QB Jay Cutler, trying to bring the team back to the NFC North title. But they will have to contend with Mr. Brett Favre. He is one of “My Favreorite Things”, although I’m not a Vikings fan. The western division on both sides are going to be much improved compared to the last several years. There are going to be some great competitions this year and you will be able to see some great fun this season!
