Bold Moves with Boldin?

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 1:58 pm

There has been a lot of talking going on in the NFL around the possibility of trading Anquan Boldin from the Arizona Cardinals to some other team. It’s going to be an exciting offseason if they do make this move. They were talking just earlier today about how he probably wont get traded ultimately anyway, because no one was making any acceptable offers for him. But now there are reports that the asking price has dropped. And there are several teams that appear to be in the mix, including the Eagles and Giants, who are looking into getting him into their game. This would improve these teams. There are probably some other teams trying to get in underneath the radar, so we’ll have to keep an eye on this while we also watch the NFL draft this weekend.

Indians vs Yankees

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 10:31 am

It’s like a battle from the pioneer days, Indians vs. Yankees. But this time, at least on Saturday, it turned out very lopsided: the Indians beat New York by a 22-4 margin. This is, however, an unclear way of thinking about it. The Indians would have still won, even if we eliminated the 2nd inning from the game. In that inning Cleveland scored 14 runs. But that would have still left it a 8-4, a decent margin of victory. The poor Yankees are struggling and having quite a bit of trouble trying to get their team into gear. The new Yankee’s Stadium doesn’t seem to be helping as much as one might have thought. The new stadium has a veritable jet stream heading to right field, apparently, so everyone is able to get a homerun, except the home team, it seems. Cleveland is having a great season so far, with strong performances from newbie Mark DeRosa.

Thomas to Coach again!!

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 10:27 am

Isiah Thomas said that he would return to coaching this year and he picked men’s college basketball to coach for. Florida International is the destination for Coach Thomas who in the past has not been known well for his coaching skills that got him fired from two previous NBA teams. As a player Thomas lead the Detroit Pistons win two NBA championships as a point guard. After his career as a player he moved on and coached the Indiana Pacers and they took over in New York. When Thomas was with the Knicks they finished 23-59 and then never won a playoff game when he was the President of the Knicks. This will be the first time the Thomas coaches at the college level and it will be something to watch.

Yankees Struggle

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 10:45 am

The New York Yankees are having a bit of a struggle starting off this season. Yesterday, they played against the Tampa Bay Rays and were out of the game by the end of the 1st inning. Their starting pitcher, Wang, had already been removed from the game by the bottom of the second, after giving up 8 runs. There was a grand slam in the second inning. After 2 innings, the score was 9-0. In two starts, Wang has a 28.93 ERA. The Yankees ended up losing 15-5 on a rough evening in Tampa. They are having trouble getting their games done and their pitching really isn’t holding up their end of the bargain, especially the relievers and closers. Surely they’re working on some kinks, but it’s a tough way to start.

Womens NCAA

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 1:34 pm

If you’ve not yet had enough of NCAA tournaments, then it’s time for you to switch gears a little bit to watch the NCAA women’s championship coming up in the next week. Who is going to win? Most of the different analysts seem to think that UConn is going to win it all this year. They have many of the same teams that are good like in the Men’s side, but after all, since the Huskies haven’t lost a game yet this season, but still seem to have their wits about them, then we needn’t worry about the competition quite as much as you might think. Get ready, this is going to be a fun championship!

Who Won?

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 9:37 am

In the trade that sent Jay Cutler to Chicago, who won? According to this guy in the Washington Post, Denver won it. The Bears have a good quarterback to play for them, but the Broncos got a quarterback, a couple of first round picks and some other picks as well. This is a fairly high price to send off a player who was going to leave anyway. Plus this gives them the chance to finally start anew by sending the trouble of Cutler away and letting McDaniels finally get back to the business of coaching. It’s been a complicated few weeks, but finally the drama is over. That is, if Orton and Cutler play decently this fall.
