Hawk Beats Duck

After dropping a 3rd period lead and then going on to lose in overtime against the San Jose Sharks, the Chicago Blackhawks need to rebound against the Anaheim Ducks. That’s easier said than done, especially for the Hawks who have won just 2 of their last 19 games in Anaheim.  Currently, they’re on a three game losing streak. The bright spot for Chicago in all of this is that they’ll be going up against the Ducks’ backup goalie, since the primary goalie had to leave for home on personal reasons.

Red Sox News

Although it is a disputed fact, apparently the Boston Red Sox management put forth a one year contract offer towards their former catcher/captain Jason Varitek. However, on the other side of the story, Varitek’s manager Scott Boras is stating that if this is true then he has heard nothing about. It would be wise of the Red Sox to try and snatch up Varitek at whatever the cost. Not only is he an invaluable member of the team, but the catcher spot is an especially scarce position in the MLB right now.

Armstrong in Danger?

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 3:52 pm

Lance Armstrong says that he fears somewhat for his safety if he were to return for another Tour de France competition this year.  After rumors swirled about whether or not he was on drugs in 1999 and in other years, and he refused to retest his samples from ‘99, he says that he’s concerned about what the crowds might be like in France next year, should he return to take it on again.French fans, he claims, have been asked to take to the streets against him, and with no major crowd control mechanisms for the sport, he is concerned. But at the same time, he’s really ready for a comeback.  He’s really excited for one, in fact. He hasn’t felt this way since 99, when he was just coming back from his cancer treatment.

Anderson Cote 2?

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 4:25 pm

Though some time has passed since their battle a few weeks ago, many fans are quite hopeful that Anderson Silva and Patrick Cote will meet each other in the octagon once more. Cote was the first challenger to make it to the third round with Silva before he twisted his knee and was unable to finish the fight. Silva-Cote 2 would be a great fight.

Stuckey Day-To-Day

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 12:06 pm

Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey has been listed as day-to-day after he experienced lightheadedness during a game last Sunday.  He had crouched down with his hands on his knees and gestured at his chest when talking with the team’s coach during the game. He will probably sit out most of the teams west coast swing, just to be sure that there isn’t anything else wrong.  He is currently undergoing a battery of tests to check what the issue might be.  Hopefully it’s nothing serious and that he’ll be able to jump back in soon.

Cleveland Finds Their Man

They may not have won in their 34-30 loss to the Denver Broncos last night but the Cleveland Browns have definitely won some consolation. They seem to have a consistent starting quarterback in Brady Quinn, who threw for  239 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions. The fact that they lost is more of a defensive problem than offensive. The defense just seemed to turn to dust in the final quarter of the game, allowing Denver to comeback from a 10+ point deficit. Review the game here.

Culpepper is back!

Filed under: Sports — Paul @ 10:21 am

Daunte Culpepper is reportedly about to sign a 2-year agreement with the Detroit Lions.  He had previously announced his retirement in September, after not being able to get a starting position elsewhere in the NFL.  He had been injured in previous years, but is apparently better and able to play.  The Lions are still looking for their first win of the season and are struggling mightily.  Their original starting QB was injured earlier this season, so they’re hoping to bring in a new one who knows how to do a starting job much more than their backup has.  Culpepper previously played in Minnesota, where he and Randy Moss made a great QB-WR team, scoring many TDs over the years there.  He will definitely add a spark to an otherwise weak and frustrated Detroit team.
